GENERATION 2
[June 2000 - May 2001]
"Dreams made possible with technology."
VIGNETTE: THE COLOR GREEN
[May 2001 - Squint]
![]()
We live in a world of noise and sometimes we forget what's really around us.
![]()
This video was simply a mixture of images which showed the beauty of the world we live in - a world created by God. The entire clip was set to Rich Mullins 'The Color Green', which had a pretty powerful ending, allowing me to use that to my advantage. I have always listened to songs and tried to image what imagery would best be suited for it, providing the best experience. This was my first real attempt at it, and although it's not nearly as good as I envisioned it, people enjoyed it.
![]()
Created in a four day span, this clip was done almost entirely in After Effects. The images used came from a CD full of stock imagery, which wasn't my original intention, but ended up working out better. Although it was tedious work creating keyframes for each image (approximately 300), I think that it would have taken longer to use live video clips. The short introduction was also my first attempt at using different layering of video. I have achieved similar results with still images in Photoshop, but it's a whole new ball park when working with video - it can only get better (I hope).
VIGNETTE: CHURCH
[Apr 2001 - Squint Kickoff]
![]()
A look at various types of churches and people's impressions of the church experience as a whole.
![]()
Ingenium's first attempt at a more serious video. It ended up taking more time to complete than originally expected due to collecting various stills and
timing the video clips so that they showed the correct responses without overlapping each other.
![]()
The original concept was to have a three-part video which opened up with two people having a discussion about church, moving into asking others various church-related questions, then
ending, again, with the two individuals. Due to time restraints during Squint as well as the fact that it took quite some time to put together, the original plan was scraped and replaced with this.
SIMPLY ODD [Feb 2, 2001 - Jr. High event]

![]()
The story of one villain's attempt to rid the pizza-flipping mayor of his extension cord and the
pursuit of the heroine capable of whistling people to sleep. Enter 'Simply Odd'.
![]()
This video was a junior high youth group event. The story was put together by having each kid draw from a hat a character name and an odd ability. We tried both a phone conversation as well as stop-motion 'special effects'. Both low budget, but you've got to start somewhere.
![]()
On-screen it seems that everyone came together quite well. Off-camera: we were dealing with junior high's who have a fifteen second attention span. Try again.
VIGNETTE: CHRISTMAS [Christmas, 2000 - AO Banquet]

![]()
A look at the contrast between Santa and Christ in the city we live in during the Christmas Season.
![]()
This video used the newly discovered After Effects, which can be seen in the final Nativity scene. Although extremely crude, it still gets the point across.
![]()
The AO newsbreak section in the middle was a small surprise for Youth Pastor Todd since when I met with him to film it we were just planning on getting some footage of him with Santa. However, when we were there we decided it might be best if the camera wasn't plainly visible. That's where I got the idea to shoot it from the third floor from the POV of a
security camera. It worked out quite well. It was also my first attempt at doing narrative V/O's - which turned out to be much harder than I anticipated.
PROJECT 'WE' [Dec 10, 2000]
![]()
This video was put together for my friend Shawn as a means
of proposal. To his fiancé, not me.
![]()
In this clip I tried to use sped up video. Although those
that saw it liked the video, I had envisioned something a little better
(especially the faster clips).
MISSION IMP*SSIBLE [Oct 15, 2000]

![]()
Connor and Dave unleash a plan of disaster on the same unsuspecting victim they
always seem to harass.
![]()
Still having fun with the new camera, we spent all of about 45 minutes planning and shooting this video. The result? A 2 minute clip with a 'surprise' ending.
![]()
It was actually water...
CONN1: ODE TO CONN [Nov 2000]

![]()
A satirical spoof of two blockbuster movies, loosely based on the life of Connor.
![]()
This was Ingenium's first attempt at doing vocal dubbing and the result was fantastic. With the creative and humorous help of Dave we were able to mix jokes about Connor over various scenes from the movies.
![]()
I actually talked Dave into making this video, telling him it would be great to make fun of Connor, of course knowing full well about 'Being Dave Boyleovich' which had not yet been shown. Throughout the course of post-production and in the time while waiting for viewing, I had to make sure that I never let on to either party about the other's video. In fact, there were times when Connor came over to my home and I had to rename and hide folders on my computer so that he wouldn't see the video clips. Then one evening for Connor's birthday we showed both and everyone else watching got to laugh at both Dave and Connor. A classic viewing.
BEING DAVE BOYLEOVICH [Sept 2000]

![]()
An insightful look into a single day of Dave's life.
![]()
After acquiring a new miniDV camcorder, Ingenium went out and made this video which was actually filmed in a few hours while Dave was away at work. Due to the much greater mobility with a small camcorder, this project was one of the first attempts to use multiple camera angles. As well, it was also the first attempt to film a split-screen telephone dialog which, in the end, worked much better than expected. Again, the value of proper
pre-production was evident with something as tricky as dialog. Then again we didn't have the liberty of planning...
![]()
...which actually brings us to the fact that our original plan was to make a mess of Dave's room instead, and film the whole thing. After some thought, we felt it would have been better to do something a little more thought-intensive and creative. The day to show this was planned to be during a Youth Group event but it kept getting delayed until...
ACCESS ANVIL [Camp 7, 2000]

![]()
Access Anvil, the nightly news source for Camp 7. Not only do these reporters have to deal with the public but they
also have a run in with the Mozza Fellas.
![]()
Part live. Part video. All crazy.
![]()
For those that were there: no more Mayo for us.
VIGNETTE: WHERE THE STREETS [Camp 7, 2000]

![]()
A short video showing some aspects of Camp 7. Dubbed with U2's 'Where the Street Have no Name'.
![]()
I used this video as an opportunity to try to achieve some "effects" (reverse video effects, fading/transparency, blue screen matting). Even though the editing took place at Anvil and in a short amount of time, I was pleased with the results. It was certainly an opportunity for me to learn.
CAMP SURVIVOR [Camp 5, 2000]
![]()
The Work Crew once again take on the Directors in this oh-so-subtle spin off of the most popular survival show on television. Through tribal councils, challenges, and snarky comments, watch as the tribes battle each other for position of 'Camp Survivor'.
![]()
Definitely Ingenium's largest production to date, this video was filmed and edited entirely on Anvil Island in the week that camp ran. I learned the value of
pre-production with this project as it ate up all my time up at camp.
![]()
As mentioned earlier, most of the survivor comments were thought up primarily on the spot. It was originally planned to film most of the Work Crew comments while we were still in Vancouver, but since none of them showed up for a BBQ that idea was scraped and it was back to the drawing board. The closing tribal council shows most of the Work Crew members sitting on the rock. Then after it cuts back to the group standing after hearing the final tally, you may notice that there are fewer people than originally. That's due to the fact that filling the belly with any form of snack takes priority.
THE LOTTERY TICKET [Jun 18, 2000 - AO Praise Yearend]
![]()
David and Connor are unsuspecting victims of con-artist Robin who sells them tickets for a bogus raffle. Little do they know that the prize is, in fact, a true gem.
![]()
Desperate to think of a video that would fill some time for the AOP yearend, this video was put together in a similar style as the original Ingenium 'Mission Impossible' videos. This was the last videos Ingenium made that required VHS editing. (NOTE: it was re-edited a few weeks later once NLE was
acquired)

Despite Connor's best efforts to hit Michael while he had a pillow case on his head, he was
unsuccessful.
